Dear WSIS Stakeholders, It’s time to bid farewell to 2012 and to welcome 2013! 2012 has been an extraordinary year for the WSIS Process. The WSIS Forum 2012 was one of the most successful events that brought together more than 1300 WSIS Stakeholders to discuss, deliberate and plan WSIS related activities. The WSIS Forum 2012 resulted in an Outcome Document and in identification of Emerging Trends in each Action Line.
These emerging trends identified at the Forum provide all WSIS Stakeholders with guidance and a vision for the way beyond 2015. In order to encourage and provide global recognition to WSIS Action Line projects we initiated the WSIS Project Prizes at the WSIS Forum 2012,
18 stakeholders were awarded WSIS Project Prizes as a global recognition of their efforts towards advancing implementation of the WSIS Outcomes.
Discussions on WSIS+10, WSIS beyond 2015 took shape during this year. The WSIS Forum provided the perfect platform for multistakeholder discussions on several aspects of the WSIS Review process. The two WSIS+10 plenaries resulted in multistakeholder consensus on the following:
- WSIS+10: Template for Countries: 10–Year Country Reporting Template
- WSIS+10: Template for Action Line Facilitators : 10–Year Review Reports by all the WSIS Action Lines
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the WSIS Stakeholders, WSIS Forum Partners and all supporters of the WSIS Process for their commitment and dedication towards this process. Brining your attention to the WSIS Forum 2013, we would like to encourage you to please submit your official submissions towards the Open Consultation Process on the Thematic Aspects and Innovation on the Format here.
Please note that the WSIS Forum 2013 Invitation letter will be available soon in the six United Nations languages and registration to the forum will open in the beginning of February. We also encourage you to nominate your successful projects for the WSIS Project Prizes 2013 (Deadline: 31 January 2013).
We look forward to working with you in 2013. We wish you seasonal greetings and a Happy New Year 2013!
Best Wishes, WSIS Team
