[Moderator's note: The following message is a brief report of a side event during the Durban Review Conference that is currently taking place in Geneva. “Combating racism through human rights education: Examples of national practice” was organised by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) with the United Nations Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee for Human Rights Education in the School System (UNIACC) and the Council of Europe. The side event focused on national practices regarding human rights education in the school system and their impact in combating racial discrimination. It provided an opportunity to highlight challenges and lessons learned with regard to the implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, as concerns human rights education, and to promote awareness of the World Programme for Human Rights Education (2005-ongoing).]  Continue Reading…

ENGLISH: For NGO participants to the Durban Review Conference who were unable to find accommodation in Geneva, a limited number of emergency places will be made available between the 17th and the 25th of April 2009. These places are located in a civil protection shelter in the town centre and will be available for delegates at 20 Swiss francs per night, including breakfast. For bookings, please write to Durban Mandat International. For bookings before the 17th of April, please contact the  Welcome Centre for Non-governmental Organizations and Delegations at Mandat International.
